Ramblings Change of Venue

I've been trying to simplify a little bit. I've enjoyed LJ ever since I got here but posting (even just copying and pasting) from MySpace to Blogger to LiveJournal has been really hard. So I've decided to do what some others have done. I'll post here when there's a new post to read but I'm going to direct everyone to my Blogger blog, RAMBLINGS. This may not be super convenient for mySpacers but please consider following me over there. Not only will I always have the inside scoop on all news for THE HOLLOW and my favorite YA author, Jessica Verday, I'm also hosting excellent guest bloggers-mostly book reviewers and occasionally some authors. I'm also hosting excellent contests for autographed books. The first of those is WONDROUS STRANGE by Lesley Livingston. You can comment there to enter as often as you like but don't comment yourselves out because many other BIG books will be coming soon including an ARC of THE HOLLOW!! So please visit the blog and continue the conversation we started here. There are several of you who've become very familiar with the blog here and have been unwavering in your support, and for that we say, thank you. We hope you've enjoyed the contests here and will continue to be a part of this journey!

Don't forget to visit the NEW www.JessicaVerday.com where the first chapter of THE HOLLOW is now available and, as always, you can sign up to GET THE GOODS!!

WICKED winner!!!

Today, Rebekkah's name, MJMBECKY was drawn out of the hat to be the winner of the autographed copy of WICKED LOVELY by Melissa Marr!! She also will receive the Summer Court bracelet. Thanks to Melissa Marr for autographing the book and for the bracelet. And thanks to all who entered and shared the contest with their friends. Congratulations to today's winner and be sure to follow me for future contests and behind the scene news on my favorite author, Jessica Verday.

Our boy, Tobey, is doing well. In some ways, have a sick cat is worse than have a sick child. They have no way to tell you where it hurts. But although he gave us quite a scare, he is doing well. And we're breathing some relief for now. Poor guy was diagnosed with a terminal condition, but luckily a very broad one. He's a strong, healthy cat in every other way so he's responding very well to treatment and we hope to have him for a very long time.

The new website is fantastic. Jessica's new site has got the first chapter of THE HOLLOW for your reading pleasure. It's got some excellent little tid-bits you can find and GET THE GOODS is the page for you to get your goodies pack mailed to you with a numbered collector cover image, an autographed postcard from Sleepy Hollow, NY and a post card you can keep or send to a friend. (While supplies last). We're getting closer and closer to September 1st, so grab the countdown widget and we'll meet you in THE HOLLOW.

Wicked Weekend Contest

Hello. I am not at BEA with Jess this weekend because of a wicked weekend in a bad way. So I decided it was finally time to have a WICKED week in a good way. A WICKED LOVELY week. For the next seven days, anyone who leaves a comment on this post will be entered to win an autographed copy of Melissa Marr's WICKED LOVELY!

It's one of my favorites and it started a fun series that isn't over yet. WL was followed by INK EXCHANGE. IE was a step aside from WICKED LOVELY as the author introduced new characters in the WL world and expanded on a few supporting characters from WL. And this year the WICKED LOVELY cast returned in FRAGILE ETERNITY. That book brought Melissa Marr to Davis Kidd books in Nashville where she was gracious enough to sign a copy of all her books for the lucky fans who showed up to meet her and she was especially nice to sign a copy of WL just for this blog.

The winner will also get a SUMMER COURT bracelet!!! So come one, come all and comment, comment, comment. All comments will count as long as they make sense, meaning you can comment more than one. On Saturday, I'll put all the names in a hat and pull out the winner. I know what you're thinking....wicked cool. Good Luck!!

Whirlwind

Lots to talk about, lots to talk about. First thing is, I'd like to thank everyone who participated in my latest contest called, "Have you ever been haunted?" It was so fun and I really wish I could have sent everyone prizes. The discussion on hauntings can continue. All you need to do is visit HERE and share your story. I'll continue to comment, may be I'll even share some of the stories here at the blog.

Jess and I went to see the newest X-men movie this week. X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE was a pretty intense movie. They threw in just about every cliche' possible from walking away while something blows up behind you to screaming while the camera pans out over you and a dying loved one. And the effects were a little disappointing at times (which was a big surprise considering the great team responsible for creating them). That said, it had a solid plot and great acting. The movie was very character driven and well done. It was worth the ticket price for Hugh Jackman's performance alone (and I am not a big HJ fan-he really was that good in this).

Next we took a really fun day trip that ended up being the reason for the title of this blog. While Jess took care of business, I got to explore a place I seldom get to see and give my mom a fun Mother's Day present. It's always a challenge to find the right way to ship the best presents from several states away.

I was able to finish Stephen Colbert's I AM AMERICA (AND SO CAN YOU), finally. It was a fun read. I did enjoy AMERICA: THE BOOK, a little better. The Colbert book was a little disappointing as a read but I think that could have been solved by listening to the audio version. So much of Stephen's character and wit is dependent upon his voice and mannerisms that, to me, it lost something without his inflections. Mr. Colbert (off camera) may or may not like this, but to this fan, it's not so much what he says that's so funny-it's him and his ability to deliver his lines.

I've been watching Jess's following at her blogspot Jibberings grow. From May Day (May 1st) to the 15th she's offered to give away five fantastic books (that I totally helped pick out;)) to five lucky followers of her blog. She has a much more entertaining blog than I do, so if you haven't started following her yet, now's a great time to do it. Click HERE to visit Jibberings and comment as often as you can-she LOVES that.

Just a reminder that the lovely, Melissa Marr, visited Nashville recently on her FRAGILE ETERNITY tour, and was nice enough to offer me a giveaway for this blog. As Jess's "Where my Peeps at?" contest closes, I'll be announcing the dates for a Wicked cool contest over here. Between Get the Goods and contests, we're starting to get on a first name basis at the post office. Isn't getting and sending mail AWESOME?!?

And, speaking of awesome, STAR TREK debuted in theatres this weekend and last night we went to check it out. We were not to be disappointed. Fear not Trekees, you won't be disappointed either. J. J. Abrams pulled out all the stops to recreate Star Trek for a whole new generation (no pun intended). By doing the movie the way that they did, they'll be able to completely redo the franchise without being able to screw it up. You'll have to actually see the movie to figure out what I mean. Don't "do" Star Trek?? No problem, this flick was made by a non-Star Trek person, so it's made for everybody. It was a great movie.

That's it. Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there. Hope you had a great day.

Important News!!

Happy "Buy Indie Day" everybody. Visit your local book store and pick up a great new read today!!!

Now to the news, "Important" is a strong word but, many of you sweethearted people who have websites, blogs or just your profile here at myspace (or all of these) have been kind enough to insert the widget for THE HOLLOW on your pages. I needed to let you know that there was a problem with that counter being a little too wide to fit on certain sidebars so it's been readjusted. The old one isn't available anymore so please use this one to update your sites. Sorry for that. Hope you like it. It's been tweaked.

I'd also be happy to email the html code to anyone who asks for it. Thanks!!

Also news: The winner of the Sleepy Hollow DVD from my Birthday contest did not claim her prize, so the runner-up was awarded the DVD in her stead. Congrats to BrookeReviews, the prize is coming soon.

NEW CONTEST!!!

I know Jess is going to be doing a PEEP contest soon but I wanted to get in on the fun too. Some of you might know that Mister V (that's me) turns 30 this month, so in honor of my birthday I wanted to give away some prizes to my peeps (Easter joke, I don't really call anyone "my peeps").

I want to have some fun with it and be unique. So, On Amazon.com's page for The Hollow, I started the first discussion by sharing a true story about my own interaction with a ghost. A totally true story in a thread called; Have you ever been haunted?

So for this contest, I'm inviting everyone to visit that discussion and share your own true story of ghost interaction (like 50 words or less-not an essay OR a short story OR anything like that). It doesn't have to be about you but it has to be true to the best of your knowledge.

OK THIS IS NEW; Silly me, I don't know what I was thinking, so hear this; I prefer a true life ghost moment, but if you don't have one, you can still enter. Just write something about a book or song that haunts you. Hope this makes things more inclusive.

Post your reply from now until my birthay, April 23, add your story to the discussion then check back here on the 24th when I'll announce the winners. (I'll be picking randomly and posting the Amazon names here)

Post your entry HERE and while you're there consider pre-ordering THE HOLLOW by Jessica Verday!!!

Three people will win: (book)

One lucky winner will win: (DVD)

This is a Lee Verday Birthday contest, it doesn't have anything to do with Jessica Verday's Easter Peep contest or any other Jessica Verday or Simon Pulse contest that may or may not be held in the future. Winners will be chosen randomly and announced by Amazon ID name at leeaverday.blogspot.com, leeaverday.livejournal.com and Myspace.com/laverday on April 24, 2009. All entries must be posted to the Amazon discussion no later than Midnight EST on April 23, 2009. Thanks!!
